Through advocacy, awareness, and action within the community we believe that children can be protected from maltreatment.

Keeping Kids Safe advocates for a child welfare system where every decision prioritizes child safety and the overall well-being of the child. Through education, advocacy, and community support, as well as policy reform, we aim to prevent child abuse, minimize avoidable harm, strengthen accountability, and ensure children are safeguarded from neglect and foreseeable danger.

In 2021, Washington passed HB 1227, also known as the "Keeping Families Together Act." This important legislation, which aimed to enhance child safety, went into effect in 2023 and raised the legal standard for removing children from their homes from “probable harm” to “imminent physical harm”.

Keeping Kids Safe was founded in 2024 by a group of foster parents, each with a unique journey, background, and experience with the system. United by a shared desire to enhance child safety and prevent child abuse, we aim to end the risking of vulnerable children due to insufficient policies. Over time, we have developed into a powerful network fueled by community support, all passionate about Keeping Kids SAFE.

Our grassroots team of dedicated professionals, foster parents, service providers, and community members are passionate about promoting child safety and making a difference in the lives of children who need a voice. We work together to gather data, educate, and advocate for the safety of children involved in the child welfare system in Washington State. With strong community support, our goal is to improve child welfare laws and prevent child abuse, ensuring that the system tasked with protecting children fulfills its mission.
