Protecting Children in Our Community

Empowering families to prevent child abuse and neglect.
At Keeping Kids Safe, we strive to educate the community on the impact of child welfare policies in Washington and be a voice for children affected by child abuse and neglect.
In 2021, Washington passed HB 1227, also known as the "Keeping Families Together Act". This bill went into effect in 2023 and raised the legal standard for removing children from their homes from “probable harm” to "imminent physical harm". Since its implementation the number of child fatalities and near fatalities has risen by over 200%. Social workers and judges are required to follow and enforce the law. Without good laws, kids will continue to be harmed by the system designed to protect them.
Keeping Kids Safe was founded in 2024 by a group of foster parents, each with a unique journey, background, and experience with the system. What we shared was a desire to see an end to vulnerable children put in harm's way due to failing policies. Over time we have grown into a powerful network of people with a passion to Keep Kids SAFE.

Our grassroots team of dedicated professionals, foster parents, service providers, and community members are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children who need a voice. We work together to gather data, educate, and advocate for the safety of children involved in the child welfare system in Washington State. Our goal is to see child welfare laws improved so the system tasked with protecting children does just that.
